Black History Month is and will always be a time to celebrate Black culture, Black people, and events that share the history of the African diaspora. I can remember as a little girl the lessons I learned in school and wondered why I didn’t see stories about people who looked like me all year round.
With that in mind, I made it a point to study African American History and African American Political Thought at the University of Houston (Go Coogs❗️).

I’m a first generation university graduate, but I certainly won’t be the last in my immediate family (and extended if I can help it).
As we’ve hit mid-month, think about what it means to you to hear about our ancestors. Think about the opportunities you’ve been given that weren’t afforded to them. Think about what you can do to further the leadership role you will have for our children and their children.
If you’d like to read my sentiments, they’re posted here: https://kdhnews.com/news/education/black-history-month-a-way-to-show-how-african-americans-have-worked-really-hard-to/article_0aded6a6-6ed4-11eb-8944-2796331bfba2.html
How sweet it was for them to post on Valentines Day ♥️

A special thank you to the Killeen Daily Herald!
